It was nearly a full house at St Peters Church Horbury for the "Songs of Praise" concert held at 6pm on Sunday 4th July.
The Band played a varied programme of hymns for the audience to sing to which included Abide With Me, Stand Up Stand Up For Jesus and of course the old favourite Onward Christian Soldiers. A short synopsis of each hymn was given to the audience by Father Brian, the vicar of St Peters.
Before the Band played their final item, the March "Marching Onwards", Band secretary Arnold Tattersfield, spoke to the audience about the Bands new music stand banners. The banners were being used for the first time and had been donated by Shirley Sedgwick and her daughters Jenny and Laura in memory of her husband and their father Bruce. Arnold went on to say that Bruce had been a good friend and "Mate" to the Band and would always be remembered. The audience and the Band were then asked to give a round of applause in Bruce's memory.
Refreshments were served at the end of the concert during which time the Band their own words of praise from members of the audience.
A collection of £138 was given to the Band.

The Intermediate band enjoyed a fabulous lunchtime Garden Party at St Mary's Church last Saturday. The younger onesput on a solid performance and should be very proud of their efforts. The event included various stalls and a barbecue. It was organised to raise money for the renovation of the Church Porch. It was a very successful day.

The Band would like to thank St Mary's for their kind donation to the band funds and looks forward to working with them again soon.

Last week while the band was warming up during a run of the mill rehearsal we had the pleasure of 2 members of the public coming to listen. The Ladies heard the bands rendition of Irish tune from County Derry, also know as Danny Boy, and enjoyed it so much they decided to come in and listen. Although this is uncommon for the band we are always happy to have people who enjoy our music to pop in if they like what they hear.

The Senior band are delighted to announce Simon Cooke has returned! After just a few months away, Simon will be playing Solo Euphonium. We wish Simon the best of luck.
