Ex Terra Lucem by Jonathan Bates - and guess who was in the audience!  Drawn 8th out of 9 bands, Horbury had a long wait to perform.  But duly warmed up by MD Duncan, they put together a sparkling performance, as witnessed by the following tweets by the composer;

"Horbury, is that a certain young-faced Michael Dodd I see in the euphonium hot seat?
Not the boldest choice of start dynamically but you can hear all the little internal lines which have rarely come through this evening, this is building in stature and class every bar.
Spellbinding middle section, with every ounce of time dragged out, really good and consistent stuff so far, can that be maintained through the finale?
Horbury - Overall: yep, they can. Everything in the score razor clear and controlled. Consistent quality through the 3 movements and that extra bit of polish only a handful at the top end have produced. In the mix. Quite far in it too."

Jonathan Bates Regionals 2018

In the end, the adjudicators' opinion is what counts, and Horbury were awarded a very creditable 3rd place - CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS TO ALL MEMBERS AND DUNCAN!!
